Looking at the HP Deskjet 2540, you might not believe it came out in 2015. In fact, you probably wouldn’t, if we didn’t assure you. It looks very… dated. Not only that, but its release price tag was around $50. And yet, it’s both a color model and supports cloud printing. That’s probably why it not only sold out so fast that it’s out of stock, but you can’t even find a used model if you want this cheap all-in-one goodness. The 2655, that can be found for under $40, does quite a good job of replacing it, though.

With the model being so budget-y, some tradeoffs had to be made. Some will tell you that the text printing quality is so bad that you’ll pray for the HP printer not printing black error, but it’s not quite there. Still, the question remains: if the printer is so hard to find, does the same translate to ink, even if we’re talking remanufactured ink?

Well, for starters, you can’t get HP Deskjet 2540 ink through the HP Instant Ink program, which you may or may not care about. Official sources are getting scarce, and the HP Deskjet 2540 manual won’t be of much use when it comes to replenishing ink for this model.

What is the best HP Deskjet 2540 Ink Cartridge option?

Fortunately, the sellers on Amazon have plenty of ink for this hard-to-find model. HP Deskjet 2540 ink comes in the HP 61 and HP 61XL cartridge, and it’s actually very abundant. Why? Because it just so happens that this cartridge is compatible with a number of newer and more expensive printer models, while the cartridges themselves are reasonably priced. So, head over to the Amazon marketplace and replenish that ink for the printer everyone’s been telling you to upgrade. What do they know, really?
