HP Envy 7640 Ink Cartridges

Once HP Introduced their HP Instant Ink plan, everyone was skeptical about it, but it later proved to be quite a smart concept, not only for HP, but also for the end user. The HP Envy 7640, as the member of the Instant Ink line of printers, came with the feature preinstalled, where you had the opportunity to try out the service for yourself.

But, there are users who don’t want to opt for any subscription plans, especially when it comes to printing, but rather want to control their spending by buying the cartridges themselves. And we don’t blame you, controlling your expenses is the most important thing when it comes to owning a printer. So, if that’s the case with you, then welcome to our HP Envy 7640 Ink Cartridge buying guide.

What are the best HP ENVY 7640 Ink Cartridges?

HP Envy 7640 Ink CartridgesAs the user manual of the device suggests, the Envy 7640 is designed to work with the HP62 series of ink cartridges, which consists of a black ink cartridge and Tri-color ink cartridge. Both of them come in two versions, the first one is the normal sized HP62 Black Ink Cartridge while the second is a HP62XL Tri-Color Black High Yield Ink Cartridge.

Regarding the price, expect to pay around $40 for genuine cartridges and around $30 for remanufactured units. Both of them come with their pros and cons, so be sure to know beforehand which brand to trust. Our own recommendation would be to go with the genuine ink.

HP LaserJet 1020 Plus PDF Manual

HP LaserJet 1020 Plus PDF Manual

Basic looks, high print speeds, a drawer which fits enough papers to last your home office for a year – those are the words with which to describe the HP LaserJet 1020 Plus. The device was mainly targeting home-office users which weren’t happy with the current line-up of InkJet printers, and they wanted to jump in to the LaserJet game.

The small size, together with the overall footprint of the device, paired with the low price and the 150 sheet tray, made this device a good fit for home offices which didn’t need a high end printer in the first place, but wanted to experiment a bit with regular toner cartridges.

Gone are the times when we used to keep our user manual in paper form in a separate drawer of the kitchen, we’re now in the digital era, and if you didn’t already switch to PDF manuals, this is the right time to do it. One main source of user manuals which we usually use is ShareDF, an online file directory which hosts thousands of manuals, with your HP LaserJet 1020 Plus PDF Manual between them. To download it, just click on this link: http://sharedf.com/documentation/hp-laserjet-1020-plus-user-manual/

HP Color LaserJet 5550 PDF Manual

HP Color LaserJet 5550 PDF Manual

With a price tag of over $3500, the HP Color LaserJet 5550 was quite an expensive asset back in 2005., but luckily it can be found for far less money at this point. For that price tag you would get a work horse for your medium to large sized office, where the 5550 would outperform most smaller devices, not only with speed, but also with the print quality.

Whichever type of document you throw in to your print job, the 5550n will return it looking sharp, with fine lettering and clean and straight lines. Just keep in mind that the toner cartridges can get quite expensive, as we wrote in our 5500 toner cartridge overview last week.

Also, the device can give you quite a headache if you’re not familiar with HP’s LaserJet line of printers, in which case the HP Color LaserJet 5550 User Manual could come in quite handy – regardless if you want to upgrade the memory of the device or just troubleshoot it.

Where to download the HP Color LaserJet 5550 PDF Manual

Downloading the HP Color LaserJet 5550 PDF Manual can be as easy as one click, if you know where to look. I usually recommend ShareDF, which is a file directory website which hosts several thousand user manuals in PDF, mainly covering printers. Between all those files is also the manual which you’re searching for, and it can be downloaded through this link: http://sharedf.com/documentation/hp-color-laserjet-5550-user-manual/

HP Photosmart 6520 PDF Manual

Being one of the first affordable touch-screen control printers on the market, the HP Photosmart 6520 surely made a difference back in 2012. Although the bottom line was that this model was ahead of its time, featuring an OS which had to be connected to your local WiFi 24/7 to actually work properly, it was still well accepted by the crowd, mainly by professionals looking for a home-office printer replacement.

Although the HP Photosmart 6520 lacks an Ethernet port and the MFP function which most of its competitors already have, it makes everything up with the software package and eFax feature with which it comes with by default. The device also supports Apple AirPrint and the HP ePrint Home and HP ePrint Biz app, including Android and iOS devices.

Since it’s an InkJet printer, it uses the HP 564 Ink Cartridges, which are available in their Original and High Yield versions. More on that under this link:  http://inkevolved.com/hp/buy-hp-6520-ink-cartridges/

Where to download the HP Photosmart 6520 PDF Manual

I keep most of my user manuals within a Dropbox folder which is then shared with me and my family. In case someone is having issues with a specific gadget within our house, they just access the shared folder and go through the manual which they need. I’m suggesting the same thing to you as well, and to fill out that folder, I usually recommend ShareDF, a file directory where I download all of my manuals. The same site also hosts your HP Photosmart 6520 PDF Manual, which can be found under this link: http://sharedf.com/documentation/hp-photosmart-6520-user-manual/

HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer PDF Manual

The HP ENVY 5530 was introduced back in 2013., mainly targeting users which wanted to refresh their home-office line-up of gadgets. At that time it was also recognized as one of the smallest AiO printers on the market, with a stylish design which made up for its slow speed and the lack of an Ethernet port and fax features.

The main strength of the Envy 5530 definitely lies within it’s ease of use and output quality, the printed out text is sharp and clear, and color graphics are as accurate as it can get on an InkJet printer. But that’s not all, the device was also valued by professional users, not only because of its automatic duplexer, but also because of the support for Wi-Fi connectivity paired with cloud printing. New units are still to this day available over at Amazon.

As an InkJet printer it mainly used ink cartridges, with HP’s support for the Instant Ink Program. If you want to know more about its ink, be sure to visit our dedicated article on it under this link: http://inkevolved.com/hp/buy-hp-envy-5530-ink-cartridges/

I’m constantly asking myself, why would someone even keep the printed out user manual which came with the device when you can have the PDF version of it? Especially when it’s so easy to download and store it on your mobile phone or desktop computer. When it comes to the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer PDF Manual, I got my version from ShareDF, a free PDF file directory which offers user manuals as a free download. The HP ENVY 7640 was introduced back in 2014 as an e-All-in-One printer mainly targeting users who are within a home-office environment, but could also be found in smaller offices due to the rich feature set it holds.

The regular consumers would enjoy the connectivity features it had, where you could connect it to all your familiar devices, including the phone and using HP’s ePrint features, as well as read from an USB thumb drive and SD Memory Card, while the professionals would mainly buy it because of the automatic duplexer, automatic document feeder and the HP’s Instant Ink program. Due to its popularity and continued support, the HP Envy 7640 is still available over at Amazon for around $120.

Since it’s an InkJet printer, the device uses a specific set of ink cartridges, which are currently available in the regular and XL sizes. More details on them can be found within our last week’s article on HP Envy 7640 Ink Cartridges.

HP Printer Not Printing Black Ink

HP Printer Black Ink Not Printing

So, your HP printer is not printing black ink and you need that print job on that piece of paper ASAP? Let us skip the intro text and jump right in to the solution. There are several ways of solving this, but before we jump in to the HP Troubleshooting steps, let’s check if you got everything right with the installation process.

Quick note before we jump right in to the action, this text is tied specifically to the problem “HP printer not printing black ink“, if you’re having different issues, you can go over to our general troubleshooting guide under this link: HP Printer Not Printing

Did you install the black ink cartridge properly?

HP Printer Not Printing black ink
Check if you removed the tape

We sometimes forget the basic steps when installing HP Ink Cartridges, and that’s to remove the plastic protective tape that is located on the new ink cartridge. If you didn’t remove it, your black ink will not print.

So, to repeat the process, open up your printer, access the ink cartridges, pull out the black ink cartridge and check if the plastic protective tape is still on the cartridge. If yes, remove it and reinstall it. Once that’s out of the way, let’s go to calibration.

Did you calibrate your HP printer after installing the ink cartridge?

HP Printer won't print black ink
Calibrate your printer

People usually think that calibration is not needed after the initial setup, but that’s not right. You should calibrate your printer every time you put a fresh pack of ink in it. The reason behind it is that although you put a fresh black ink cartridge in to the device, it doesn’t read it and, thus, the HP Printer won’t print black.

To calibrate your device, find the HP Photosmart Toolbox or the Service this device tools on your machine, within the printer’s software. Once you’re there, you should see one out of these three options:  Calibrate the device or Clean The Print Cartridges or Align the printer. Click one of them, doesn’t matter which one, and the printer will calibrate itself.

Once it’s done, you should see the results immediately. If it worked, ta-da, you can now print black ink. If not, maybe we would need to clean up the printheads.

Are you owning an older printer? When was the last time you cleaned the printheads?

In case both options are now crossed, there is no protective plastic on your ink cartridge and the device is calibrated, but the HP Printer is still not printing black ink, then we need to get some tools and clean up the printheads of the device. Don’t be scared though, it’s nothing complicated. If you don’t know what print heads are, check it out under this article: What are printer printheads.

But if you’re familiar with the term, go and grab some lint-free cloth or cotton swab. Take out all the cartridges and start cleaning the contacts on both of them. You can either use a professional cleaning solution like this one, or you can use some isopropyl alcohol. Dip the lint-free cloth or cotton swab and clean up the contacts on the ink cartridge and on the printer, leave it to dry out and then reinstall everything. Here are some photos to explain the process a bit better:

HP Printer won't print black ink

If the above solutions didn’t fix it, you have one last option

Exchange the ink cartridge with a different one of the same color and try the process again. If the same thing is happening with the new cartridge and your HP printer still won’t print black ink, although your printheads are clean, your device is calibrated and the protective plastic tape is off, then it’s obvious that something’s not right with the device itself.

At this point you can’t do anything from your side since there is a huge chance that something within the printer is broken, so you can either bring it over to the closest printer repair shop, or try your luck with HP Customer Support.

HP Printer Not Printing

HP Printer Not Printing

Is your HP printer not printing? You’ve lost the user manual and would like to troubleshoot your device online? Then welcome to our guide!

Today we’re going to discuss why a HP printer wouldn’t print and how to solve it. But, before we begin, just to double-check with you. In case you’re having issues exclusively with the black ink cartridge, then jump over to our last week’s guide under this link:  HP Printer not printing black ink.

Now, since we have that out of our way let’s focus on the today’s topic and start of with the basics.

Is your printer connected to your computer properly?

The first step in to solving the issue would be to check the cables. In order for your HP Printer to print, you need to have it connected to a power outlet so that you can turn it on, and connect it to your computer so that your drivers can see the printer and send it print jobs over the line or via Wi-Fi.

So, your printer should have two cables, one connected to the outlet and another to your computer. Please do check that first, and after that we can go to the next step.

HP Printer Not Printing

Do you have the right drivers installed?

Each printer comes with their own set of HP Printer Drivers, usually located on a CD which came with the device. In case you lost that CD and can’t install the printer drivers from it, you can download them through this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers. Just type in your model name and download the drivers, install them afterwards and double-check if your printer is not printing.

If your HP printer is still not printing, then let’s go over to the next step.

HP printer not connecting to WiFi

If you’re one of those users who like to have cloud printing enabled, and need their printer connected to their WiFi network, but you stumbled on some issues and your HP printer won’t connect to your WIFi, then the only proper solution to the problem is to go through HP’s official guide. You can find it under this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05367434

Did you install the ink cartridges correctly?

HP Printer Doesn't WorkHP Ink Cartridges either came with your device or you have to purchase them separately, depending on where you’ve got the machine. Each cartridge needs to be installed separately in to your machine, but before you do that, you need to remove the protective plastic tape which is located on the ink cartridge.

Be sure that each and every ink cartridge installed in your printer has that little piece of plastic tape removed, since the same tape is obstructing the ink flow from the ink cartridge in to your printer and, thus, your HP Printer doesn’t print.

Is your device calibrated?

Some users think that their device needs to be calibrated only once, but that’s not true. Every time you install a fresh pack of ink cartridges, regardless if it’s just one color or all four of them, you need to calibrate the printer.  The reason behind it is that although you put a fresh black ink cartridge in to the device, it doesn’t read it and, thus, the HP Printer won’t print.

Did you try cleaning your printheads?

If you’re owning an older printer, then there is a huge chance that the printheads need a cleanup.  If you’re not familiar with the term, you can check it out here: What are printer printheads.

It’s nothing complicated though, so don’t be scared.  You just need a cleaning solution like this one paired with a lint-free cloth or, if you don’t have that, a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol will also do the job.

Take out all the cartridges and start cleaning the contacts on both of them, once you’re done leave them ut to dry. Here are some photos to explain the process a bit better:

HP printer Won't Print

None of the above helped, what now?

I wouldn’t recommend opening up the device and tinkering with the internals further then the above mentioned printhead cleaning, especially if you’re not familiar with the process. So, the best solution would be to find a local print repair service or call HP Customer Support to guide you through the process. From my side there’s nothing I can do for you at this point, so good luck!
